Upon graduation, he entered the work force for a brief time, working and living in Atlanta for a number of months. He was working at the large Rich’s store in downtown Atlanta when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.
He returned to Moultrie in 1964 and worked at a window plant . In October 1964, Tony joined the U.S. Navy and served our country courageously for four years during the Vietnam War, making two tours to the Gulf of Tonkin in Vietnam. In 1967, he was aboard the USS Forrestal when the historic explosion and tragic fire occurred on July 29th. He was discharged from active duty in the Navy in October 1968.
In 1968, he met his future wife at Virginia Beach, VA where he was stationed at Oceana Naval Base. On July 5, 1969, he and Jeanie were married in Lock Haven, PA. in the Dunnstown Methodist Church. They “honeymooned” to Georgia and began married life in Douglasville, GA. Their first son, John Scott was born February 18, 1971. After Tony was laid off from his job at Lockheed Aircraft, they moved to Carrollton, GA. where Tony began technical school. Their second son, Sean Patrick, was born on July 18, 1973. In 1972, Tony began working at Ralston Purina in industrial maintenance and has continued in that field to the present. He graduated from Carroll County Technical School with an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering. In 1976, they moved to Peachtree City, GA for Tony to be closer to his job. Their third son, Seth Clayton, was born November 13, 1978.
The McGee’s were always involved in church during these years. They attended a Baptist church for a short while in Austell and a small Presbyterian church while in Carrollton. When they moved to Peachtree City, they began attending the Fayette County Episcopal Church (the first Episcopal church in the county). This later became St. Andrew’s in the Pines Episcopal Church. It was in this church that they were introduced to the “gifts of the spirit”, “charismata” and “ a deeper walk with the Lord”. Tony served on the vestry at St. Andrew’s for two 2-year terms and was junior warden for the last term. In 1979, Tony was miraculously delivered form alcohol during a lay-led inner healing session at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta. In 1984, they left St. Andrew’s and began attending Fayette Fellowship Assembly of God, where the new pastor was Rev. William David Epps. This church eventually became Trinity Fellowship in Sharpsburg, GA. While at Trinity, Tony served three terms on the board of deacons. He became a Stephen’s minister, which is an interdenominational program for ministering to the sick and needy. He was enrolled in the Timothy Program to become a credentialed minister in the Assemblies of God denomination.
In September 1996, the McGee’s were led to leave the A/G and become foundational members of the new CEC congregation at Christ the King under Father David Epps and Father Mark Johnson. In 2000, Tony applied for and was admitted to the Holy Orders process. He was ordained by The Most Rev’d John Holloway, Bishop of the Mid-South Diocese, as a deacon in Christ’s one holy, catholic and apostolic church on November 24, 2002. He continues to serve at Christ the King CEC where he is a member of the Rector’s Council.
