Dr. Cynthia Scott Douglas Epps

Cynthia Scott Douglas was born on an Air Force Base in Cheyenne, WY, the first of four children of USAF Captain John and Bette Douglas. After her father received an Honorable Discharge from the military, the Douglas family soon moved to Kingsport, TN. Raised in the Southern Baptist church by devout Christian parents, Cindy was active in church activities throughout her life and received Christ at an early age and was baptized at Colonial Heights Baptist Church.

She graduated from Sullivan Central High School where she received numerous academic honors. She attended Radford College and later transferred to East Tennessee State University. While at ETSU, she met her future husband, David Epps, in a speech class. They were married September 6, 1971.

Later, David would become a minister in the United Methodist Church and then in the Assemblies of God. Together, the Epps’ served churches in Tennessee, Colorado, and Georgia. In the A/G, Cindy ministered in the area of education and missions. She eventually became an ordained minister in the Assemblies of God, a distinction which she laid aside when she and her husband were confirmed in the Charismatic Episcopal Church in 1996.

Dr. Epps has over 30 years of nursing, education, and management experience. She received a Diploma in Ministerial Studies from Berean College of the Assemblies of God, her Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) from East Tennessee State University, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the State University of West Georgia and both the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and the Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (Ph.D.) from Georgia State University. In 1997, she joined the faculty of the Department of Nursing at The University of West Georgia, Carrollton, GA.

In 2008, Cindy Epps was promoted to the position of Associate Dean at the School of Nursing at UWG. The Associate Dean operates directly under the Dean and is the second highest position in the School of Nursing.

In addition to her duties as Associate Dean, she is a fully tenured Professor of Nursing in the School of Nursing where she teaches at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. She serves as the Coordinator of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program and is the Director of the Newnan campus of the University of West Georgia’s School of Nursing.

She has presented research throughout the United States, in Australia, Canada, and the Virgin Islands. She has been published in numerous professional journals.

Dr. Epps has ministered on medical missions with the Society of Christ the Healer in Uganda, Kenya, and the Philippines. She has previous foreign medical missions experience in Paraguay with Healthcare Ministries. She is a Commissioned Minister of Medical Ministries in the Charismatic Episcopal Church. She is married to Bishop David Epps, who is the Rector of Christ the King Church in Sharpsburg, GA. He is currently serving as a bishop to Tennessee and Georgia. The Epps’ have three adult sons and eleven grandchildren. They reside in Sharpsburg, GA.
