Christ the King
Tolono, Champaign County, Illinois
History
Christ the King, a mission congregation of the Charismatic Episcopal Church, held its first meeting in September 2006 in a home in Tolono, IL. Within a few months, the new congregation moved into the historic Senator’s Inn at 801 N. Dunlap (Rt. 45) in Savoy. A church plant of Christ the King Church in Sharpsburg, Georgia, the new work is under the oversight of Bishop Craig Bates. The church’s vicar, or mission pastor, is Father David Epps.
Meetings
Currently, the church usually meets on the first Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the Senator’s Inn. Other meetings during the month are currently in the planning stage. A typical service will include praise and worship, scripture readings, a message from the pastor, prayer for the sick or for anyone who has a need, and the celebration of Holy Communion. Currently, the room used as the meeting area is set up much like a family room with a fireplace and tables so that worshippers may take notes, if they desire. Often, the members of the congregation will meet together for a meal in a nearby restaurant prior to the service. Inquirers and other interested persons may obtain additional information by calling Father Epps at 217-493-1193 or by.
